Participant Equipment: Seat + Chest Harness (secured through both back loops via a jake), Helmet, & C-Hook

  • Follow all instructions for 4-H checks and appropriate commands for activity.

  • One facilitator stands at the bottom of the silver stairs to perform 4Hs and provide the following instructions before participants ascend:

    • What the C-hook does & how to navigate it at height

    • No more than 2 participants per bridge/ladder, 10 per platform

  • Slide participant’s C-Hook over the entry cable and instruct them to climb up the stairs.

    • (Coach participants through T-Plate junctions, as needed.)

Wopper Plopper Top Facilitation

  • Visual 4H check participant when they arrive at the exit platform.

  • Direct them to walk around the back of the tree

  • Move participant’s C-hook until it is behind facilitator’s claw. The participant should not move their own C-Hook after this point.

  • Attach the orange carabiner of the QuickFlight to participant’s belay loop. Squeeze check.

  • Connect and twist both halves of the Transfer Unit.

  • Look down at the landing corridor to ensure that the area is clear (VISUAL Confirmation OF the ground) **

  • Call down to ground, “Plopper clear?VERBAL Confirmation FROM the ground) **

  • When you hear the response “Plopper Clear”, Double Check their harness, C-Hook, and all carabiners again. Move your (the facilitator’s) claw behind the participant’s C-Hook, then slide their C-hook over the Transfer Unit.

    • NOTE: You NEVER move your claw behind the participant’s C-Hook (I.e., initiate disconnecting the participant from the platform) until you have both verbal and visual confirmation that the ground is clear.

  • Disconnect the Transfer Unit halves from each other. Clip the wire gate (connected to the Transfer Unit) to the participant’s belay loop.

  • Instruct the participant as follows:

    • With one hand, hold the lanyard which connects directly to the QuickFlight, and with your second hand hold the lanyard with the Transfer Unit. Scoot hand two right up against the Transfer Unit. Keep your hands down and away from each other.

    • After I clear with ground, you are going to take a large, committed step off of the platform.

  • Call down “Plopping 1.”

  • Once you receive the response “Plop 1 On” from the ground, count down and send the participant off.

**  You must ALWAYS get both visual and verbal confirmation before sending anyone off of a zip line.

Wopper Plopper Ground

See “Wopper Plopper Top” section above for commands and communication with the person working the top.

  • It is imperative that you always keep the landing zone clear of all facilitators, participants, and obstructions. You should stand out of the way of the landing zone and wear a helmet.

  • Each time a person plops down, your responsibility is to get the participant off the QuickFlight attachment. The participant’s safety is always your priority.

  • As the participant approaches the ground, give them a heads-up on when to stand. Note: participants frequently stumble when landing. Assist them as is applicable.

  • Guide them to the half of the Transfer Unit mounted to the tree. Connect and twist both halves of the transfer unit.

  • Disconnect the wire gate and life support carabiner from their belay loop, slide the C-Hook over the Transfer Unit to remove, and send the participant out of the helmet zone.

  • Step away from the tree and release the QuickFlight lanyard so it can retract to the top.
