Leaping Elements

DISCLAIMER: This video is not an official Sojourn Adventures training and is intended for staff who have attended the necessary training.

Power Pole

Participant Equipment: Seat Harness, Chest Harness, & Helmet

  • Ensure the participant is clipped in appropriately (rope attaches to BOTH loops on their BACK (seat & chest harness).

  • Complete a 4-H check on the participant.

  • Before each participant climbs, share with them…

    • Wait before climbing. I’ll let you know once I’m ready and you can begin to climb.

    • Keep the rope over your shoulder. Don’t ever let it get underneath your arm

    • Don’t grab the rope unless explicitly instructed.

    • If possible, count down or let me know before you jump.

  • Once you have them on belay using the JRD, give them the command to begin climbing (always using the participants first name).

  • Coach the participant to the top, how to stand, and have them jump.

  • As they jump, take a giant step back to remove as much slack from the rope as possible.

  • Slowly lower the participant to the ground (they should be lowered no faster than they can walk).
