Power Pole

Participant Equipment: Full Body Harness (OR Seat + Chest Harness) & Helmet

  • Ensure helmet zone is clear of other participants.

  • Complete a 4-H check on the participant.

  • Ensure the participant is clipped in appropriately (if in full harness, carabiner attaches to the D-ring on their BACK; if in seat+chest harnesses, carabiner attaches to BOTH seat and chest harness loops on their BACK.

  • Before each participant climbs, share with them…

    • Wait before climbing. I’ll let you know once I’m ready and you can begin to climb.

    • Keep the rope behind your shoulder. Don’t ever let it get underneath your arm.

    • Don’t grab the rope unless explicitly instructed.

    • If possible, count down or let me know before you jump.

  • Once you have them on belay using the JRD, give them the command to begin climbing (always using the participants first name).

  • Coach the participant to the top, how to stand, and have them jump.

  • As they jump, pivot so that your front foot becomes your back foot (to remove as much slack from the rope as possible).

  • Slowly lower the participant to the ground (they should be lowered no faster than they can walk).

Leap of Faith

Double Power Pole

  • Ensure both participants are clipped in appropriately (if in full harness, carabiner attaches to the D-ring on their BACK; if in seat+chest harnesses, carabiner attaches to BOTH seat and chest harness loops on their BACK).

  • Before each participant climbs, share with them…

    • Wait before climbing. I’ll let you know once I’m ready and the first parcipant can begin to climb; the second must wait for our command to begin.

    • Keep the rope behind your shoulder. Don’t ever let it get underneath your arm.

    • Don’t grab the rope unless explicitly instructed.

    • The first climber must wait at the top for the second climber.

    • Remember, both climbers must exit the platform in the same manner at the same time. Count down or let us know before you jump.

  • Ensure helmet zone is clear of other participants.

  • Once you have the first participant on belay using the JRD, give them the command to begin climbing (always using the participant’s first name).

  • Coach the first participant to the top, how to stand, and have them wait.

  • Once you have the second participant on belay using the JRD, give them the command to begin climbing (always using the participant’s first name).

  • Coach the second participant to the top and how to stand.

  • Prompt them to countdown to platform departure.

  • As they jump, pivot so that your front foot becomes your back foot (to remove as much slack from the rope as possible).

  • Slowly lower participants to the ground, keeping at least six feet between them (they should be lowered no faster than they can walk).
